Reddit's social network is planning to introduce a new feature. As evidenced by the statements of the company's employees, these are profile photos based on NFT.
Reddit is testing a new feature
Recently, it has been reported that Reddit, a popular social networking platform, is testing NFT profile photos. The new feature is to allow users to set any NFT as their profile photo.
Information on the introduction by Reddit of the possibility of using NFT as profile photos and verifying ownership, was revealed by the service representative - Tim Rathschmidt. He emphasized that the project is in the testing phase, and the company is still holding back on introducing the new function publicly.
The NFT project goes into effect
Although Rathschmidt maintains that Reddit is just testing NFT profile photos, there are many indications that the project will soon enter into force. This is evidenced, for example, by the post that the non-Reddit developer of the Nima Owji application posted on his social media profile. The new feature may already be partially public, as evidenced by the banner that promotes it, which is mentioned in his post by Owji.
It is worth noting that Twitter is also favorable to the NFT profile photo options, which so far also only tests this function. Therefore, at the moment it is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers.
Reddit and Cryptocurrencies
The NFT profile photos aren't the first sign that Reddit has an interest in cryptocurrencies. Already in May 2020, the company introduced the tokens / r / CryptoCurrency and / r / Fortnite dedicated to its users, based on the Ethereum network. They are also known as MOON and BRICK. In turn, in June last year, the website introduced its own NFT collection called "CryptoSnoos".
In October 2021, Reddit began recruiting employees for a project related to the creation of a larger NFT platform. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that NFT will soon become an important support for the company's operations.
