The company Google informed AdSense publishers some time ago that monetization on any content that in any way uses or justifies the war has been stopped. It has to do with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Prohibition of earning money on pro-war content
The technology giant has recently introduced a ban related to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Google has banned monetization from content that exploits, dismisses or justifies the war. The question here, however, is how to distinguish between content that informs about the war and that which actually uses it.
Google also recalled that a similar restriction was introduced some time ago with regard to content related to the war in Ukraine, insofar as it was in breach of applicable law. We are talking, for example, about texts that are offensive, inciting violence or lying about reality.
The new changes extend the existing restrictions. At the same time, Google has explained to publishers what the company's rules are. And while in some cases it is obvious which content can no longer be monetized, in others quite a lot of leeway is left.
Certain restrictions on advertising were introduced by Google some time ago. Included are content about dramatic events such as wars. As a result, advertisements of broadcasters who did not want their messages to be visible with this type of material could not be displayed.
Difficulty judging content
This time, the message from the technological giant sounded more decisive. Google has banned monetization from content that defies or in any way justifies wars. However, he did not stop there. Even the closure of your AdSense account can be a consequence of notoriously repeated violations.
While the content justifying war or directly contradicting it are not difficult to recognize, it is not so easy to clearly identify those who use it. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that the new rules will cause considerable controversy, and the sanctions that are being implemented will be challenged.
